Abstract
In this study, the effect of using the hormones LHRH and Ovaprim on inducing spawning and improving the reproductive performance of the long-whiskered catfish was investigated. This experiment was conducted in a completely randomized experimental design with 21 female broodstock in seven different treatments, including a control treatment injected with physiological serum; groups 2 to 4 respectively received doses of 2, 3, and 4 micrograms per kilogram of body weight of the broodstock of LHRH; and treatments 5 to 7 respectively received 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 milliliters of the Ovaprim combination per kilogram of body weight, with 3 replicates. The broodstock were maintained under temperature conditions of 26 to 28 degree centigrade and a photoperiod of 12 hrs light and 12 hrs darkness. After intramuscular injection of the hormones, the parameters of response rate, latency period, percentage of ovulation relative to body weight, number and weight of eggs, percentage of eyeing, hatching, and the proportion of larvae with active swimming were evaluated. The results showed that only fish injected with the hormone Ovaprim had successful spawning, and the most appropriate performance was observed at a concentration of 0.8 milliliters per kilogram of female body weight. In contrast, the hormone LHRH had no effect on spawning in this study. These results indicate the superiority of the hormone Ovaprim in inducing the reproduction process and improving the eggs and larval quality in the long-whiskered catfish, and it can pave the way for the reproduction and culture of this valuable species under captive conditions due to its environmental and economic importance and its vital role in preserving biodiversity.
